PEEK rod: high-performance material for extreme applications
PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic distinguished by its outstanding mechanical properties, even under thermal load. PEEK rods offer an extremely high continuous service temperature of +260 °C as well as excellent resistance to chemicals and radiation.
These properties make PEEK a high-performance material that can be used in a wide variety of industrial applications, particularly where high thermal and mechanical demands exist.
In addition to high temperature resistance, PEEK rods are characterised by good sliding properties and excellent hydrolysis resistance. These features make PEEK an almost universally usable construction material for components subject to high thermal and mechanical stress.
Our PEEK rods are available as TECAPEEK® natural, SUSTAPEEK®, Ketron® PEEK rod as well as in many other variants.

Machining of PEEK rods
PEEK rods can be readily processed with common mechanical machining methods such as sawing, turning, milling and drilling. Since PEEK is a high-performance material designed for extreme operating conditions, sharp tools should always be used to achieve precise results. PEEK can also be thermoformed and welded, making it possible to manufacture complex components.
PEEK has very high thermal stability, which makes it ideal for applications at high temperatures. Thanks to its excellent chemical resistance, PEEK remains dimensionally stable and functional even in environments exposed to aggressive chemicals or radiation-intensive processes.
Properties
- Very high temperature and heat deflection resistance: Resistant up to +260 °C, which enables use at extreme temperatures
- High mechanical strength, stiffness and creep resistance: Particularly resistant to mechanical loads
- Excellent chemical and hydrolysis resistance: PEEK withstands water and steam even at high temperatures
- Excellent wear resistance and good sliding properties: Ideal for applications requiring low friction resistance and high abrasion resistance
- Very high dimensional stability: Retains its shape even under extreme operating conditions
- Low smoke development in the event of fire: Flame-retardant and self-extinguishing
- Good electrical insulating properties: Favourable dielectric behaviour, ideal for electronic applications
- Resistance to high-energy radiation: High radiation resistance makes PEEK an ideal material for special technical fields of application
Applications
PEEK rods are widely used in many demanding industries, as they withstand exceptionally high mechanical and thermal loads:

Electrical insulators and housings
Due to its excellent electrical insulating properties, PEEK is frequently used in the electronics industry as an insulator or for the manufacture of housings that must withstand high temperatures and mechanical loads.
Mechanical engineering and pump components
Thanks to its high wear resistance and resistance to chemicals, PEEK is eminently suitable for machine parts such as rotor arms, thrust washers, seals, plain bearings, bearing shells and gears. PEEK is also used as pump impellers or valve seats.
Medical applications and semiconductor industry
PEEK is frequently used in medical technology for components exposed to constant sterilisation or aggressive disinfectants. PEEK is also used in the semiconductor industry, as it meets the high requirements for purity and resistance to chemicals.
Transport containers and high-temperature engineering
In transport engineering, PEEK rods are used for high-temperature-resistant containers and components that must offer outstanding resistance to mechanical loads and chemical influences.
Advantages of PEEK rods
