Thermosets
Thermoset semi-finished products such as cotton laminate, paper laminate and epoxy glass – for insulation, wear parts and components under heat.
Thermosets are cross-linked once cured: they do not melt, keep their shape up to high temperatures and insulate electrically. Laminates of phenolic or epoxy resin with cotton fabric, paper or glass fabric are therefore the standard for insulating plates in switchgear construction, for gears and sliding elements, and for fixtures that must withstand heat and pressure.
The choice depends on temperature class, dielectric strength, moisture absorption and machinability. Glass-fibre reinforced epoxy sheets (e.g. FR4) offer the highest strength and dimensional stability, cotton laminate runs quietly with little wear, and paper laminate is the economical choice for insulating parts.
