Description
Polyurethane rods (PUR rods) are characterised by high abrasion resistance, elasticity and resistance to oil, grease and weathering. PUR round material is suitable for dampers, buffers, scraper strips and heavily stressed industrial applications.
Available versions:
Ø5 – 150 mm, in 72° / 80° and 90°
Colours: The standard colour for polyurethane (PUR)/Vulkollan® is generally "natural", for polyurethane D44 "brown". Colouring in black, white, red, blue, yellow and green is possible as a custom-made product (other shades, e.g. according to the RAL register, by arrangement).
Standard lengths are 1,000 mm. Other sizes, diameters, lengths and short lengths are available on request.
* Vulkollan® is a registered trademark of the Covestro Group
* Vulkollan® D15 is produced according to the Bayer formulation.
Properties
- High elasticity across the entire hardness range
- High wear resistance (very good abrasion values = higher durability)
- Noise reduction
- weather-, oil- and grease-resistant
- Good resistance to ozone, UV and high-energy radiation
- Good mechanical and dynamic load-bearing capacity
- free from plasticisers
Applications
Polyurethane rods (PUR rods) are used wherever high mechanical loads, abrasion or impact stresses occur. The elastic yet resilient material combines the properties of classic elastomers with high dimensional stability and a long service life.
Typical applications for polyurethane round material are:
- Dampers and stop buffers
- Rollers and roll coatings
- Scraper strips and wipers
- Guide and sliding elements
- Wear parts in mechanical engineering
- Conveyor technology and transport systems
- Vehicle and commercial vehicle engineering
- Concrete and recycling industry
Compared with many rubber materials, a PUR rod often offers higher abrasion resistance and load-bearing capacity. As a result, the material is particularly suitable for moving or heavily stressed components with permanent contact with friction, pressure or impact loads.
For individual requirements, polyurethane rods cut to size are available in different diameters and degrees of hardness and can be further processed for numerous industrial applications.

Under normal conditions, the material PUR can be stored indefinitely (20°C, 50% r.h.). First of all, the term polyurethane denotes a family of plastics that are formed by polyaddition. In contrast to polymerisation, no splitting off of by-products takes place here and the components used react completely with one another. The result is polyurethane, which can offer a broad spectrum of properties.
Compact PUR elastomers are characterised by outstanding abrasion properties that can be controlled in a targeted manner. This is one advantage over the material rubber, among others. Furthermore, polyurethanes exhibit an excellent recovery profile, i.e. they can be reversibly deformed within certain limits and largely return to their original shape after unloading. A high elongation capacity and elastic behaviour within a large hardness range are further characteristic properties. Thanks to its positive processing properties, polyurethane also enables an almost limitless spectrum of shapes and applications. In addition, with a large service temperature range from -40°C to +70/?80°C (short-term +110°C), PUR represents the conceptual solution for many industrial problems.
