PA6 (Polyamide) sheets:
The PA 6 material (polyamide, commonly known as nylon) is produced by manufacturers in standard semi-finished products for further processing in the form of sheets, rods and hollow rods. Nylon plastics are often combined with numbers, including 6, 66, 12 and 46. These numbers refer to the molecular structure of the nylon polymer. Each structure type also offers different properties. The most commonly used polyamide plastics are PA 6 (extrusion), PA 6 cast and PA 66 (nylon 66).
PA 6 (nylon) is generally a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with a low density and high thermal stability. Due to their outstanding wear resistance, good coefficient of friction and very good temperature resistance and impact strength, polyamides are among the most important and most useful engineering thermoplastics. Nylon polyamide is also characterised by very good chemical resistance and is a particularly oil-resistant plastic. Thanks to this excellent combination of properties, the PA polymer is ideal as a metal replacement, including for automotive parts, industrial valves, insulators for railway sleepers and other technical applications that require high strength, toughness and low weight. Nylon tends to absorb water and therefore offers poorer dimensional stability than other engineering plastics. The properties of polyamides vary from hard and tough PA 6.6 through PA type 6 to soft and flexible PA 12. Depending on the type, polyamide plastics absorb different amounts of moisture. This in turn influences the properties of the nylon as well as the dimensional stability of the finished machined parts.
Properties of PA 6 sheets
The PA6 material is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic that impresses with its balanced combination of strength, impact strength and chemical resistance. PA6 sheets have a high load-bearing capacity and good abrasion resistance, which makes them an ideal material for mechanically stressed components. The thermal stability enables the PA6 sheet and the
PA 6 rod to retain their shape and function even at higher temperatures.
A distinctive feature of PA6 sheets is their ability to absorb vibrations and shocks. This property is particularly advantageous in applications where high mechanical stresses occur, such as gears, bearing housings or in conveyor technology. In addition, PA6 sheets have very good chemical resistance to oils, greases and many hydrocarbons, which further favours their use in the automotive industry and in mechanical engineering.
