PTFE stands for polytetrafluoroethylene. Polytetrafluoroethylene is a plastic which does not become liquid or meltable when heated, but soft and rubber-like. PTFE is a linear, semi-crystalline polymer composed of fluorine and carbon. PTFE belongs to the group of thermoplastics. The group of thermoplastics includes all plastics which can be easily deformed within a certain temperature range. PTFE is known under the trade name Teflon©.
Because of its versatility, PTFE can be used universally in many different industries. The plastic is found, among other things, in medical, electrical and automotive engineering, as well as in the food industry, in mechanical engineering and in the chemical industry. In the food industry, PTFE is widely used because of its non-stick coating. In the textile industry, PTFE is used to produce water-repellent fabrics. In the textile industry, PTFE is known under the name Gore-Tex.
What properties does polytetrafluoroethylene have?
- non-stick
- water-repellent
- high sliding properties
- temperature-resistant
- weather-resistant
- low coefficient of friction
- resistant to chemical substances, oils
What is PTFE used for, among other things?
- pans, pots, irons
- razor blades
- as lining for containers
- seals
- sealing tape
- sliding feet of computer mice
PTFE is a popular plastic which you can obtain in different lengths, widths and material thicknesses. You can obtain PTFE as sheet cut pieces, sheets, rods, hollow rods and films. The cut pieces can be obtained in a size of up to 43000 mm length, 4300 mm width and 100 mm material thickness. For films, you can choose from 0.5 to 1.0 mm thickness. Companies receive the cut pieces for further processing, in order, among other things, to line containers or walls in the chemical industry. The PTFE cut pieces can be easily joined together by welding. If the sheets have been pre-treated, they can also be glued together. However, this is only possible with pre-treatment of the cut pieces. The cut pieces can be further processed by sawing, planing, grinding, bending or CO2 laser cutting.
The cut pieces are prefabricated raw materials. They are known under the term semi-finished products. As the word says, these are semi-finished materials which serve their purpose for further processing into a completely finished product. Semi-finished products are also referred to as blanks. You receive PTFE semi-finished products made exactly to measure and they are dispatched to your company without delay, so that you can process them quickly. PTFE cut pieces are cut exactly to size by a CNC-controlled sawing system. CNC stands for Computerized Numerical Control. A CNC sawing system is a machine tool which, through simple operation and programming, can carry out precise cuts, but also drilling and milling operations. A CNC saw can be extended into a machining centre or can, among other things, be upgraded and combined with a waterjet system. With a sawing system, customer requirements can be produced in different quantities. If a prototype is needed, this is possible. A CNC-controlled sawing system produces 1 to 100,000 cut pieces in the shortest time. You can obtain PTFE cut pieces in different versions. Whether as PTFE sheets, rods, hollow rods, woven tapes or films. If you have any open questions, do not hesitate to contact us and make use of our support. We help you to realise your ideas and carry out the work for you from production to a finished product.
