The material acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, usually referred to as ABS plastic, is produced by manufacturers in standard semi-finished products for further processing and extruded in the form of sheets and rods made of plastics. The ABS polymer is an amorphous terpolymer that is manufactured by combining three different compounds. The three plastics that are combined in the production of ABS plastic are acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. By means of various combinations of these monomers, versatile ABS plastic types can be produced through branching or copolymerisation, which in turn cover a multitude of different ABS properties. The ABS material bridges a unique gap between standard plastics and other high-performance engineering thermoplastics. Its performance is characterised by toughness and impact strength even at low temperatures, good stiffness and machinability. ABS is a special plastic that stands out for its high impact strength/impact resistance combined with high surface hardness. Embedded in its matrix are tiny rubber beads made of butadiene, which absorb the impact energy and thereby protect the rest of the matrix on impact. For this reason, impact-resistant ABS is not available as a transparent material. The incident light is refracted (deflected) at the surface of these rubber beads, which makes the material appear milky cloudy in its natural form. However, there are special transparent ABS types in which the rubber beads are smaller than the light wave and, due to their small size, can no longer refract the light wave.
ABS sheets are amorphous (i.e. no semi-crystalline zones) in structure and possess the characteristics typical of amorphous plastics, such as a relatively large thermal processing range, or can be readily dissolved with organic solvents such as acetone. ABS sheets can be glued or painted quite easily. The further processing of ABS sheets can be carried out without difficulty by milling, CO² lasers, drilling or sawing. We offer high-quality solutions from ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) for numerous branches of industry. The ABS products are carefully designed and are extruded/manufactured using both single-layer and multi-layer processes. ABS has excellent mechanical properties for implementing structural applications where impact strength, strength and stiffness are required.
The advantages:
ABS sheets are an impact-resistant and hard thermoplastic with very good thermoforming capability. ABS sheets exhibit good chemical resistance to non-polar solvents (e.g. diesel or petrol) our ASA/ABS sheets are UV- and weather-resistant and therefore also ideally suited for outdoor use
Properties:
Cost-effectiveness, high economic efficiency, availability in natural and black, easy joining, gamma and X-ray resistance, good machinability.

Physical properties of ABS plastics: ABS has a density of 1.06 g/cm³ and can be used for application areas with temperature requirements up to +90°C. The impact strength is 13 KJ/m². Pure ABS is not UV- and weather-resistant.
BW Kunststoffe offers various sheets and solid rods made of ABS and ASA products: ABS standard / matt / super matt / glossy, ABS HH – increased heat resistance, ABS flame-retardant UL94 V-0 ABS/TPU ABS conductive, ABS/PC blends, ABS/ASA, ASA matt / glossy ABS regranulate
The ABS sheets are available:
ABS sheets in further thicknesses, as well as half thicknesses e.g. 1.5 mm standard sheets with a maximum format of up to 8000x2000 mm. Cut pieces and milled parts up to a size of 3500x2000 mm. ABS sheets in thicknesses up to 0.5 - 70 mm available in any RAL colour. ABS solid rods available in different diameters and colours
Milled parts and finished parts made of ABS plastics: On our modern CNC milling centres we can mill ABS sheets precisely to your drawings. Thanks to the stocking of ABS sheets in our own warehouse, we are readily able to supply smaller but also larger quantities of sheets or cut pieces very quickly. To prepare a quotation, we require details of the quantity per delivery and a drawing, sketch, template or design data
