Why EN AW-7075 is chosen for highly stressed components
EN AW-7075 is one of the high-strength aluminium alloys and is often referred to as aircraft aluminium or Ergal. The material offers a very good ratio of weight to strength and is suitable for applications where high mechanical load capacity is required. Compared with standard alloys such as EN AW-6082, 7075 achieves a significantly higher tensile strength and is therefore preferred for heavily stressed components.
Benefits of 7075 rods
- High strength: ideal for components with high mechanical requirements
- Very good machinability: suitable for precise CNC machining with clean chip behaviour
- High fatigue strength: suitable for dynamically loaded applications
- Good dimensional accuracy: stable basis for tight tolerances and precise components
Typical areas of application for EN AW-7075 round material
7075 rods are preferably used where high forces, low weight and precise machining come together. Typical areas of application are mould making, mechanical engineering, automotive applications, racing components and structural parts in the aerospace industry.
- Mould making: tool inserts and highly stressed mould components
- Mechanical engineering: technical components with high stress
- Automotive and racing: adapters, brackets and chassis parts
- Aerospace: lightweight and strong structural components
Technical properties of EN AW-7075
EN AW-7075 impresses with high strength, good machinability and very good suitability for precise machining. For technical applications, the T6 or T651 condition is often used, as these conditions enable high dimensional stability and good further processing.
FAQ on EN AW-7075 rods
How well can EN AW-7075 be machined?
The material is very well suited to turning and milling. Machining runs reliably and allows high precision with good surface quality.
Is EN AW-7075 suitable for welding?
7075 is primarily chosen for mechanically stressed components and machining. Other alloys are more frequently used for classic welded constructions.
Can 7075 be anodised?
Technical anodising is possible and is often used for additional surface protection.
How is the corrosion resistance?
Compared with 6000-series alloys, the focus with 7075 is more on strength. For demanding environments, a suitable surface protection is recommended.
What does T6 or T651 mean?
These conditions describe the heat treatment of the material. T651 additionally stands for a low-stress version with good dimensional stability after machining.
