Description
HPL sheets - high-pressure laminate for versatile applications
HPL sheets (High Pressure Laminate) are robust and decorative plastic sheets that can be used in many areas thanks to their resilient construction. They consist of several layers of paper that are impregnated with resin and pressed together under high pressure and high temperature.
The result is a very stable, moisture-resistant and UV-resistant sheet with a decorative surface. HPL sheets are available in many colours, patterns and textures, offering a wide variety of design options.

Frequently asked questions about HPL sheets
Are HPL sheets actually plastic sheets?
Yes, HPL sheets (High Pressure Laminate) are often regarded as plastic sheets, although technically they consist of a composite material. They are manufactured from several layers, including:
- Core layers: They usually consist of layers of paper or kraft paper impregnated with phenolic resin.
- Top layer: A decorative layer treated with melamine resin.
- Pressing under high pressure and heat: These layers are pressed together at high pressure (≥ 5 MPa) and high temperature (≥ 120 °C).
The result is a hard, stable and durable sheet with a smooth surface. Due to the use of synthetic resins, HPL sheets are often counted among plastic materials. They are frequently used for indoor and outdoor applications, such as façade cladding, worktops or furniture.
Their material properties such as scratch resistance, weather resistance and easy care make them popular in many areas.
What are the advantages of HPL sheets compared with other materials?
HPL sheets offer a special combination of stability, moisture resistance and decorative options. They are scratch-resistant, chemical-resistant, easy to clean and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Compared with materials such as solid wood, MDF or simple plastic, HPL sheets are much more resistant to environmental influences, mechanical damage and temperature fluctuations.
Another advantage is the large selection of decors and surface textures, which offer individual design options. Whether matt or glossy surfaces, wood looks or vibrant colours – with HPL sheets you can realise any design idea.
Can I cut HPL sheets myself?
Yes, HPL sheets can be easily cut with commercially available tools such as circular saws and jigsaws. For particularly precise work, we also offer CNC cut pieces, which are worthwhile for large-scale installations, custom-made furniture or special cladding. Processing HPL sheets is flexible: you can cut the sheets, drill them or mill them into various shapes to realise special designs.
How to cut HPL sheetsAre HPL sheets suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, HPL sheets are ideal for outdoor use. They are UV-resistant, weatherproof and retain their colour and structure even under difficult weather conditions. Their high resistance to moisture, temperature fluctuations and mechanical influences makes them perfect for façade cladding, balcony parapets, patio cladding and outdoor furniture.
HPL sheets are also well protected against vandalism. Their hard surface is difficult to damage, and graffiti or dirt can be easily removed, which makes them particularly attractive for public areas.
How do I care for HPL sheets properly?
HPL sheets are very easy to care for. For daily cleaning, a soft cloth with warm water and a little mild detergent is sufficient. For stubborn stains, you can also use special plastic cleaners. However, avoid aggressive cleaning agents or scouring pads, as these could damage the surface.
Which thicknesses are available for HPL sheets?
HPL sheets are available in various thicknesses, depending on requirements and application. Common thicknesses range from 2 mm to 20 mm. Thinner sheets are suitable for cladding, while thicker sheets can be used for furniture construction or load-bearing structures.
