Centreless cylindrical grinding at PTFE24 for an extremely smooth surface finish.
The machining that makes your workpieces perfect.
Optimum surface quality is of enormous importance, especially for products made from high-performance plastic such as PTFE, PTFE / TFM (modified PTFE), PEEK, ETFE, PFA, PCTFE, PEI, PES, PSU, PC, PPO, PPS, ABS and others, depending on the later area of application. At PTFE24 we can offer you tailor-made solutions with centreless cylindrical grinding for the smoothing grinding of plastic semi-finished products, specifically pipes, solid rods, rods and bars. In doing so, we use the centreless cylindrical grinding process to machine workpieces with diameters from at least 3.0 to a maximum of 100 millimetres, tolerances of ± 0.03 mm and lengths up to 3000 mm.
Centreless through-feed grinding
In centreless through-feed grinding, your workpiece is guided between a support, a grinding wheel and a regulating wheel and ground in a single pass to specification. The grinding wheel performs the cutting work, while the slower-running rubber-bonded regulating wheel produces the feed through its inclination of 0.5° to 15°. The workpiece rotates at approximately the peripheral speed of the regulating wheel. The process is well suited to cylindrical parts without a shoulder, e.g. for cylindrical pins, plastic rods or solid carbide rods.
Characteristics of centreless cylindrical grinding
Centreless grinding is one of the external cylindrical grinding processes, which are always used when an extremely smooth surface finish is required that cannot be achieved by milling or turning. The workpiece to be machined rests on a support rail between a regulating wheel and a grinding wheel, whereby the grinding wheel performs the plastic removal and separates the excess material in the form of chips. In this machining process, the workpiece is not fixed, so centring at the ends (centres) is not required. The regulating wheel of the cylindrical grinding machine drives the workpiece, while the faster-rotating grinding wheel performs the cutting.
Centreless cylindrical grinding ensures that an optimum surface finish is produced with extremely high dimensional and shape accuracy. The bars, solid rods and pipes made of fluoroplastic thus have consistent diameters and can be processed much better. This is also why grinding is one of the indispensable base technologies in many manufacturing processes.
In addition to extensive advice and customised development in the field of fluoroplastics as semi-finished products as well as finished parts, we at www.ptfe24.de have been offering centreless cylindrical grinding in the best quality for years, which is documented by certification to ISO9001/2015 .
