Perfluoroalkoxy copolymer
Perfluoroalkoxy copolymer (PFA) has properties that make it particularly suitable for efficient use in injection moulding. These properties closely resemble those of the widely used sintered material PTFE. Both count among the high-performance plastics and are characterised by their high fluorine content. The outstanding properties of these fluoropolymers include:
- Low strength and hardness: Despite their flexibility and softness, PFA and PTFE offer remarkable structural stability.
- Resistance to almost all chemicals: These polymers are extremely resistant to a broad range of chemical substances, which extends their possible applications in a wide variety of industries.
- Very high temperature resistance: Both PFA and PTFE can withstand extreme temperatures, making them ideal for applications in high-temperature environments.
- Flame retardancy (UL 94 V-0): Both materials are flame-retardant and meet the strict safety standards required for many applications.
- Low coefficient of friction: Thanks to their low-friction property, PFA and PTFE enable efficient movement and reduce wear.
- Inert behaviour: The chemistry of these polymers does not tend to react with other substances, making them suitable for applications in sensitive environments such as the food or pharmaceutical industry.
- High sliding wear: The materials offer excellent sliding properties, making them very attractive for applications such as bearing bushes or seals.
- Extremely low adhesion: The surfaces of PFA and PTFE are such that foreign substances can barely adhere to them, which makes cleaning and handling easier.
