crystallise
The crystallisation of plastics is a process in which crystals are formed from the melt of these materials. This process can take place in various ways, with a common method being crystallisation by cooling. Here, crystals are formed by slowly cooling a thermoplastic melt until it solidifies. The rate at which the melt is cooled influences the degree of crystallisation. Slower cooling leads to greater crystal formation and thus to a higher density of the resulting material.
Another method concerns the crystallisation of lactams. In this case, crystals can form from a solution of unbound molecules. This technique is used, for example, in the bulk polymerisation of highly crystalline cast polyamides. Through the targeted application of these crystallisation methods, specific material properties can be influenced and optimised.
