How the aluminium sheet configurator works: from material selection to cut to size – clearly explained for precision aluminium sheets cut to measure.
Configure aluminium sheets yourself with ease
With the aluminium sheet configurator you can configure your desired aluminium sheet online to the nearest millimetre – with no technical prior knowledge required. Whether for mechanical engineering, model making or interior fitting: in just a few steps you will arrive at the exact sheet you want. The configurator offers an intuitive interface, automatic plausibility checks and transparent price calculation – so that you can implement your projects precisely and efficiently.
Step 1: Select the material – not all aluminium is the same
The first step is choosing the right material. Aluminium is available in different alloys, each with its own properties. Depending on the application – e.g. construction, chemical resistance or formability – making the right choice can be decisive.
- EN AW-5083: Very corrosion-resistant, ideal for use in the marine sector, in tank construction or in chemical plants. This alloy is also readily weldable.
- EN AW-5754: Good formability combined with solid strength. Frequently used in vehicle and apparatus engineering.
- EN AW-6082: Offers one of the highest strengths among common aluminium alloys. Excellent for load-bearing components and precise milled parts in mechanical engineering.
Select the desired material in the dropdown menu at the top left of the configurator. With one click you will receive additional information on the respective alloy. For technical projects or demanding areas of application, it is advisable to check the material data sheets or consult your design engineer.
Material comparison at a glance
| Alloy | Properties | Typical application |
|---|---|---|
| EN AW-5083 | Corrosion-resistant, weldable | Shipbuilding, chemical plants |
| EN AW-5754 | Good formability, medium strength | Vehicle construction, apparatus engineering |
| EN AW-6082 | High strength, good machinability | Structures, mechanical engineering |
Step 2: Specify sheet thickness and dimensions
In the next step you enter the desired dimensions. Start with the thickness of the aluminium sheet, which is given in millimetres (mm). This is followed by the length and width. You can define the dimensions freely, as long as they are within the technically possible minimum and maximum values.
Example input:
- Thickness: 8 mm
- Length: 400 mm
- Width: 300 mm
The input fields in the configurator automatically check whether the values entered are permissible. If the details are invalid, an immediate error message appears, so that incorrect configurations are ruled out.
If you need several sheets with identical dimensions, the quantity can be specified directly next to them. This saves time and makes it easier to keep track in the shopping basket.
Step 3: Understand tolerances and enter them correctly
A frequently underestimated point with cut pieces is the tolerance – i.e. the permissible deviation from the nominal dimension. In industrial applications this can be decisive.
As standard, the following tolerances apply:
- ±0.5 mm for small to medium cut pieces
- ±1 mm for larger sheets
These values are based on the common DIN specifications and are sufficient for most applications. However, if you require particularly tight dimensional tolerances (e.g. for mounting plates or fitting pieces), it is advisable to make contact beforehand.
Important: the tolerance applies to both length and width as well as the squareness of the cut piece. You can find technical details on this on the respective product page or on request from customer service.
Step 4: Add the cut piece to the shopping basket
After entering all values, the configurator automatically calculates the price for your individual aluminium sheet. This is made up of:
- Material price per kg or m²
- Processing costs for the cut
- Packaging flat rate
As soon as the price is displayed, you can add the item to the shopping basket with one click. The configurator is structured so that several sheet variants can be configured quickly and collected together – ideal for bulk orders.
Example of a price calculation
A cut piece made of EN AW-5754, 8 mm thick, 400 x 300 mm costs approx. €16.50 including cutting and packaging (example price, varies depending on the daily price and quantity). The exact price is calculated live in the configurator.
Step 5: Shipping, delivery time and price at a glance
In the final step you receive a complete overview of your order in the shopping basket:
- Unit prices per sheet and total price
- Quantity and configuration details
- Shipping costs by weight and size
- Estimated delivery time
Delivery is made securely packaged by parcel service (for smaller formats) or freight forwarder (from a certain format or weight). Large aluminium sheets are delivered on pallets and are packed to be safe in transit. An express delivery can also be selected optionally, if available.
Avoid typical mistakes – 5 tips for correct entries
- Do not use decimal places for thickness (e.g. "10" instead of "10.0") – this can lead to input errors
- Always give dimensions in millimetres – not in centimetres or inches
- Do not forget the quantity – check before adding to the shopping basket
- Choose the material carefully – depending on the area of use and load
- Note the shipping method and delivery time – especially with tight project schedules
FAQ: Common questions about the aluminium sheet configurator
How accurate are the cut sheets? The standard tolerance is between ±0.5 mm and ±1 mm depending on size. For tighter tolerances, please make contact beforehand.
Can I order several sheets at once? Yes, simply enter the desired quantity in the configurator. Different configurations are also possible.
How quickly is delivery made? The delivery time is 2 to 5 working days from receipt of payment, depending on the order situation. For express orders it may be shorter.
What should I do for special requests or large quantities? For individual enquiries or large orders, please use the contact form or write directly to customer service. Personal advice is also possible in order to agree technical requirements.
