Surface roughness tester
The stylus instrument, also known as a Perthometer, is an extremely useful mechanical scanning device used in surface metrology. Its main function is to precisely determine the roughness or waviness of a surface.
To fulfil this purpose, a stylus of the Perthometer is guided step by step along the surface to be examined. During this scanning, the stylus senses the irregularities of the surface. This movement generates a mechanical activity, which is then converted into electrical signals. These electrical signals are then displayed on a scale, which provides the operator with a visual representation of the roughness or waviness of the surface.
By precisely scanning the surface, the stylus instrument enables the user to carry out accurate measurements and obtain important information about the condition of the surface. This is of great importance particularly in areas such as quality assurance and materials testing.
