Synthesis gas
Synthesis gas, also known as "syngas" or "synthetic gas", is an extremely versatile energy carrier that is produced by the thermal conversion of carbon-containing waste plastics in a shaft furnace. This process involves the addition of coarse lime, which serves to optimise the chemical reaction and minimise the formation of unwanted by-products.
The shaft furnace is a key component of this process, as it provides a controlled environment in which the waste plastics are broken down under heat and pressure to produce a mixture of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H2). These two gases are the main components of synthesis gas and offer a wide range of possible applications in various industrial processes.
