Continuous casting
Continuous casting, also known as strand casting or extrusion, is an important primary shaping process in metalworking in which a continuous strand of molten material is cast. This process enables the production of endless semi-finished products that can later be further processed into various products.
In continuous casting, the liquid metal is poured into a water-cooled mould (casting mould), where it solidifies immediately. The resulting strand is continuously withdrawn from the mould while new liquid metal is poured in, creating a continuous process. Through the controlled cooling and solidification of the metal, the strand acquires a homogeneous structure and a high surface quality.
Continuous casting is mainly used for the production of round or rectangular semi-finished products, special semi-finished products and profiles. These semi-finished products are basic starting products for many different industrial applications, including the construction of machines, vehicles and buildings.
