Material bond
A material bond is created by the formation of bonds between the joining partners, which are based on atomic or molecular forces. These forces cause the materials to be joined to one another in such a way that they form a solid unit. These are chemical bonds, which can be based on physical interactions such as van der Waals forces or hydrogen bonds.
In the field of plastic assemblies, material-bonded joints include in particular adhesive joints and welded joints. In adhesive joints, the parts are held together by an adhesive which, as it cures, bonds with the surfaces of the materials to be joined and creates a firm, durable connection. These adhesives often penetrate the surface structures of the materials and thus ensure high adhesive strength.
