Welding distortion
Weld distortion is a phenomenon that occurs during the cooling of weld seams and often presents a challenge. This effect can become problematic, particularly with long joint seams and with thin-walled plastic parts with little inherent stability.
The cause of weld distortion lies in the stresses that arise in the material during the welding process and change during cooling. This can lead to unwanted deformation, which can impair the dimensional accuracy and the aesthetic quality of the welded joint.
Careful design taking welding technology into account can help to minimise or even completely avoid the effects of weld distortion. This includes aspects such as the selection of suitable welding processes, the optimisation of welding parameters and consideration of material stresses. In addition, special fixtures or stresses can be used during welding to control the deformation.
