Screw extrusion
Screw extrusion is a widely used process in extrusion technology. In a continuously operating plasticising unit, the moulding material is drawn in, compacted, gently melted and further homogenised in order to produce profiles and semi-finished products by means of a solidification die.
The screw in the plasticising unit is responsible for building up the deformation pressure. It conveys the highly viscous melt continuously from the plasticising unit into the extrusion die. This die is designed so that the melt is gradually brought into the desired profile shape and the profile receives its final form.
The extrusion die is followed by the extrusion line, which consists of calibration, cooling, the haul-off unit, saws and the depositing or winding device.
High-molecular-weight materials that cannot be plasticised in a screw machine are processed in a special press-sintering process, ram extrusion.
