Bulk density
The apparent density of a foamed plastic part describes the mass of the material per unit volume, taking into account both the actual volume of the plastic part and the pore spaces it contains. This characteristic value is of decisive importance, as it provides information about the structural composition and the quality of the foam.
In particular, apparent density is frequently applied to low-density foams, as these have a particularly porous structure and thus accurate measurement and control of the density is decisive for product quality. A precise determination of the apparent density makes it possible to understand and optimise important properties such as strength, thermal insulation and acoustics of a foamed plastic part.
