Grain
Graining refers to a specific surface structure characterised by an evenly tangled line pattern. These patterns can occur in a wide variety of materials, from leather to plastics and even metals. As a rule, graining is sought either for haptic or visual reasons, or often also for a combination of both aspects.
From a haptic point of view, graining can help to create a non-slip surface that improves the handling or grip of an object. This is particularly important for products such as steering wheels, tool handles or even furniture, where a certain degree of grip is important in order to optimise the user experience.
On the other hand, the visual effect of graining can emphasise or change aesthetic qualities. Through the interplay of light and shadow on the various lines and elevations, a grained surface can appear visually interesting and appealing. This is often used in areas such as fashion and design to create textures and patterns that give the product a special touch.
