Multifilament
Multifilaments are produced by using a multi-hole die instead of a single-hole die to produce glass filaments. In contrast to single filaments, which consist of a single strand, multifilaments consist of several individual strands that run parallel to one another. Depending on the manufacturing process and the requirements of the end application, these strands can differ in their number and thickness.
In long-fibre-reinforced plastics (LFT), multifilaments are preferably used, as they can offer improved strength and stiffness compared with single filaments. By using multifilaments, the mechanical properties of the plastic can be optimised, which is particularly advantageous in applications with high requirements for load-bearing capacity and stability.
