Force fit
Friction locking describes the phenomenon that arises from particularly high static friction between two components. This static friction, symbolised by FR, depends on the contact force, also known as the normal force FN, as well as the coefficient of static friction μ. Numerous examples of friction-locked connections can be found in plastic assemblies.
These include, for example, clamping springs, snap hooks that can be released but nevertheless sit firmly, the wedging of two parts, screw threads that provide stability through friction, or even simple plugs that are held securely in position due to their frictional force.
