Undercut
An undercut is a design element that protrudes on cast workpieces and prevents them from being removed from the mould without further measures. To make workpieces with undercuts demouldable, there are various options:
- Shifting the mould parting plane
- Using mould cores as loose parts
- Inserting mechanical or pneumatic slides with mould contour
- Using lost mould cores
To avoid undercuts, the following measures can be taken on the workpiece:
- Extending protruding design elements as ribs up to the parting plane
- Incorporating lateral openings into the parting plane
- Building in depressions through the tool contour
- Designing forced-demouldable interfering contours
