Hand lay-up process
Hand lay-up process for large moulded parts made from glass-fibre-reinforced polyester or epoxy resin:
- Prepare the mould as a negative model and treat it with a release agent.
- Apply a 0.5 mm thick layer of colourless or pigmented fine-layer resin (gelcoat). The gelcoat provides the surface quality.
- After the gelcoat has cured, glass-fibre mat is impregnated with resin and laid up by hand.
- Apply alternating layers of resin and glass-fibre mats until the desired wall thickness is reached.
- Frequent use of glass-fibre mats for reinforcement; better mechanical properties thanks to interwoven glass-fibre strands.
