Which rubber materials suit your application? EPDM, silicone, FKM and other elastomers with properties, advantages and applications.
From EPDM to FKM, from silicone to NBR. Here you will learn everything about the basics, properties, advantages and disadvantages of the most diverse elastomers and rubber materials.
Elastomers
Elastomers are plastics that are flexible and elastic. They can be stretched and then return to their original shape. These materials have a loosely cross-linked molecular structure that gives them their flexibility. They are often used in applications where elasticity and dimensional stability are important, such as in rubber bands and tyres.
Thermoplastics
Thermoplastics are plastics that become soft when heated and can be deformed. They can be melted and reshaped multiple times, which makes them particularly suitable for recycling. They consist of linear or slightly branched polymer chains that do not have permanent cross-linking. Typical applications are packaging, plastic containers and household items.
Thermosets
Thermosets are hard, brittle plastics that can no longer be deformed after curing, even under strong heating. Their tightly cross-linked molecular structure provides high stability and heat resistance. Thermosets are often used in electrical components, housings and as adhesives.
