Moulded rubber parts are used in industrial sectors and play a role in the series production of three-dimensionally contoured rubber parts.
Rubber moulded parts
Rubber moulded parts are key components in many branches of industry and are used in particular in the series production of three-dimensionally contoured elastomer components.
With many years of experience in development and manufacturing, Martan Gummi produces high-quality rubber moulded parts, tailored to the respective technical requirements – to drawing, sample or specification.
More information on related products can be found in the category Rubber products.
Manufacturing processes for rubber moulded parts
Rubber moulded parts are manufactured using specialised processes that are specifically matched to geometry, quantity and technical requirements. The aim is reproducible quality with optimum use of the material-specific properties of elastomers.
Compression moulding
In compression moulding, the rubber compound is placed directly into a heated tool and formed under high pressure. Vulcanisation takes place during the pressing process, in which the polymer chains are permanently cross-linked and the material acquires its final mechanical properties.
Transfer moulding
In transfer moulding, the rubber compound is transferred into the closed tool via channels. Vulcanisation takes place in the heated tool. This process is particularly suitable for complex geometries with defined contours.
Injection moulding
In the injection moulding process, the rubber compound is plasticised and injected into the mould under high pressure. This process is particularly economical for larger quantities and is frequently used for near-series applications.
Material selection and special compounds
The choice of material determines the function, resistance and service life of the rubber moulded parts. Depending on the area of application, standard compounds or application-specific compounds are used, for example for sealing, damping or protective functions.
Rubber moulded parts complement other technical solutions such as Rubber seals or Rubber profiles and are frequently used as functionally integrated components.
Standard compounds
- EPDM: Resistant to weathering, ozone and ageing.
- NBR: Suitable for oil- and fuel-exposed applications.
- SBR: Proven material for versatile industrial applications.
- Silicone (VMQ): High temperature resistance for sensitive areas of application.
- CR (chloroprene): Good resistance to weathering and chemicals.
- FKM (Viton®): High resistance to heat and aggressive media.
Special compounds
- Urethane (AU/EU) for high abrasion and load requirements.
- HNBR for increased resistance to ozone, chemicals and temperature.
- Metal-detectable rubber moulded parts for safety-critical areas.
- Rubber moulded parts with optimised sliding properties.
- Electrically conductive or insulating rubber moulded parts.
- FDA- and BfR-compliant rubber moulded parts for food contact.
Individual adaptations and prototype development
In close consultation with our customers, we develop rubber moulded parts to drawing, sample or technical specification. Special hardnesses from 10 to 90 Shore A are possible, as are individual colour designs to RAL.
Prototype production
Before series production, prototypes are often produced for function and fit testing. These support the technical design and enable adjustments at an early stage.
Quality and service
Technical advice, careful material selection and reproducible manufacturing processes ensure consistently high quality. Rubber moulded parts from Martan Gummi are part of a comprehensive range of Rubber products for industrial applications.
Areas of application for rubber moulded parts
Rubber moulded parts are used in numerous industrial sectors in which defined material properties, dimensional stability and sustained load capacity are required. Thanks to their three-dimensional geometry, they often perform several functions at the same time.
Mechanical and plant engineering
In mechanical engineering, rubber moulded parts serve, among other things, for vibration damping, sealing of moving components or protection of sensitive parts. Typical applications are mountings, stops or moulded seals.
In addition, rubber buffers and rubber-to-metal bonded parts are frequently used here.
Automotive industry and vehicle engineering
In vehicle engineering, rubber moulded parts are used for sealing, damping and guiding elements. They must withstand permanently changing temperatures, media and dynamic loads.
Electrical engineering and electronics
In electrotechnical applications, rubber moulded parts perform insulating, protective or sealing functions. Depending on the requirement, electrically insulating or conductive compounds are used.
Food and packaging technology
For direct contact with food, specially tested materials are used. These rubber moulded parts meet requirements for hygiene, temperature resistance and statutory specifications.
In this environment, food-grade rubber is also frequently used.
Chemical and process industry
In chemical plants, rubber moulded parts must be resistant to aggressive media, pressure and temperature. Special compounds such as FKM or HNBR are preferably used here.
Distinction from other rubber semi-finished products
Compared with flat or linearly extruded products, rubber moulded parts are characterised by their complex geometry. For simple sealing or protective tasks, rubber sheets or rubber profiles are used as alternatives.
Rubber moulded parts are always used when standardised semi-finished products do not cover the functional requirements.
Enquiry, drawing data and technical details
Clear technical details are decisive for the manufacture of rubber moulded parts. The more precisely the requirements are defined, the more efficiently the material, manufacturing process and tool design can be coordinated.
Technical basics for the enquiry
Rubber moulded parts are generally developed on the basis of drawings, samples or concrete functional descriptions. Relevant details include geometry, tolerances, operating conditions and the desired quantities.
- 2D or 3D drawings (e.g. PDF, STEP)
- Details on medium, temperature and mechanical load
- Desired material or application environment
- Quantities for prototype and series
Tolerances and series capability
The achievable tolerances depend on the selected manufacturing process, the material and the component geometry. Coordination takes place already during the design phase in order to ensure economical series production.
From enquiry to series
After checking the technical documents, an assessment is made with regard to feasibility, material selection and manufacturing route. Prototypes or initial samples are then produced and approved before series production starts.
For technical questions or concrete project enquiries, we are available directly via our contact form.
Alternatively, a structured project enquiry can be submitted via the Enquiry section.
Advantages of individual rubber moulded parts
Individually manufactured rubber moulded parts offer clear functional and economic advantages over standard products. They are matched exactly to the respective purpose and often perform several functions within an assembly.
- Custom-fit geometry for defined installation situations
- Targeted material selection according to mechanical, thermal and chemical requirements
- High functional reliability and long service lives
- Integration of sealing, damping or protective functions in one component
- Series capability with consistent quality
In many applications, rubber moulded parts replace several individual components and thus reduce assembly effort and sources of error.
Frequently asked questions about rubber moulded parts
From what quantities does the manufacture of rubber moulded parts become worthwhile?
Economic efficiency depends on the manufacturing process, the component geometry and the material used. Rubber moulded parts are suitable both for small series and for larger series, in particular for special technical requirements or function-critical components.
What data is needed for a quotation?
For a sound assessment, drawings, samples or a clear functional description are needed. Details on operating conditions, media contact, temperature range and planned quantities are also useful.
Are combinations with metal or other materials possible?
Yes, rubber moulded parts can be combined with other materials. Particularly widespread are rubber-to-metal bonded parts, in which elastomer and metal elements are permanently bonded to one another.
What alternatives are there to rubber moulded parts?
Depending on the application, standardised semi-finished products can also be used, such as rubber sheets, rubber profiles or rubber seals. For complex geometries and integrated functions, however, rubber moulded parts offer the technically more suitable solution.
Do you also support with material selection and design?
The design of material, hardness and manufacturing process is carried out in technical coordination. The aim is a series-capable solution with defined function and reproducible quality.
