Separating
Separating is, according to DIN 8580, a category of manufacturing processes in which the shape of a workpiece is changed at the machining point by breaking the cohesion of the material. These processes include techniques such as cutting, sawing, drilling and milling, in which material is specifically removed in order to bring the workpiece into the desired shape.
Through the use of various tools and machines, the material is separated at defined points so that the intended geometry is created. Separating processes are of central importance in many areas of manufacturing, as they enable precise and tailor-made machining.
