Boring is a machining manufacturing process that is mainly used to produce precise holes in workpieces. Essentially, it refers to the process of boring out holes while the workpiece remains stationary and the cutting tool, often in the form of a boring bar or a milling cutter, rotates. This method enables the precise machining of holes of different diameters and depths in various materials, from metals to plastics and wood.
The boring process can be carried out in various ways, depending on the specific requirements of the workpiece and the desired results. These include methods such as plunge cutting, in which the cutting tool penetrates axially into the workpiece, or parting off, in which the tool penetrates radially into the material to form the hole.
The selection of the right tool and the control of parameters such as speed, feed rate and depth of cut are decisive for the quality and accuracy of the boring process. In addition, modern CNC machines can automate the boring operation and ensure precise repeatability, which is of great importance, especially in series production.
