Melt core technology

Lost-core technology is an advanced process for manufacturing plastic parts with complex geometries, particularly those with undercuts that cannot be demoulded or internal cavities, using the injection moulding process.

This technique combines the use of conventional metal moulds with lost mould cores. The process begins with the production of the lost cores. These consist of a low-melting tin-bismuth alloy that takes on exactly the shape of the later cavities in the plastic part.

These preformed metal cores are then inserted into the injection moulding tool. This is followed by the injection moulding process, in which the molten thermoplastic is injected into the tool and completely encases the lost core. Once the thermoplastic has cooled and hardened, the entire component is immersed in an inductively heated glycol bath. In this bath, the tin-bismuth alloy is melted and flows out, thereby exposing the cavities in the plastic part previously occupied by the lost core.
