Bulk density
Bulk density, also referred to as true density, is an important characteristic value in materials science and the construction industry. It describes the ratio of the mass of a material to its volume and is frequently stated in kilograms per cubic metre (kg/m³). Bulk density therefore provides information about how much one cubic metre of a particular material weighs. This value is decisive for assessing material properties, particularly with regard to strength, insulation capacity and transport costs.
A higher bulk density generally indicates a higher density of the material, which is often associated with better stability and load-bearing capacity, but can also lead to a higher weight and therefore to higher transport and processing costs.
