Polymerisation reactions
Polyreactions, a fascinating class of chemical reactions, encompass a broad spectrum of processes that lead to the formation of polymers. This overarching term includes polymerisation, polycondensation and polyaddition, whereby each of these reactions has its own unique mechanisms and applications.
In a polyreaction, small molecules, also known as monomers, are linked together in a progressive process to form huge molecular chains, so-called macromolecules. These chains can consist of hundreds to millions of monomer units and exhibit a variety of physical and chemical properties that depend on the monomers used and the reaction conditions.
The complexity and versatility of polyreactions make them a fascinating field of research and an important component of numerous industrial processes, from the production of plastics to the synthesis of biologically active compounds.
