Polymer blend
A polymer blend, also simply referred to as a blend, is a special type of plastic alloy in which two or more base polymers are mixed with one another either molecularly distributed or microscopically dispersed. These mixtures are created by combining the individual properties of the different base polymers in order to create a new material with improved or tailored properties.
The main aim of blend technology is to unite the advantages of the different plastics in a single material. This allows the strengths of the individual polymers to be utilised and their weaknesses offset. In some cases, combining the polymers can even achieve synergistic effects. This means that the properties of the resulting blend are better than the simple sum of the properties of the individual components.
