Polyamide
Polyamides, along with ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) and PP compounds (polypropylene compounds), are among the top materials in the plastics industry. Polyamides play a leading role particularly in mechanical engineering and precision engineering, where they are the undisputed frontrunners among polymers.
The polyamide 6 (PA 6) material group offers a wide range of universally applicable materials that are eminently suitable for mechanical functional parts in mechanical engineering. Polyamides are characterised by a series of outstanding properties:
- Cold resistance: Polyamides retain their mechanical properties even at low temperatures, which makes them ideal for applications exposed to extreme cold conditions.
- Impact resistance and notch impact strength: Polyamides are able to absorb high impact loads without breaking or tearing. This makes them an ideal material for parts exposed to high mechanical stresses.
- Abrasion resistance: Even with rough sliding partners, such as metals, polyamides demonstrate high abrasion resistance. This means that they exhibit a long service life even under intensive friction conditions.
- High working capacity: Polyamides possess a high degree of elasticity and toughness, enabling them to absorb energy under mechanical stress and return to their original shape after loading.
Through this combination of properties, polyamides are indispensable in a wide range of industrial applications and contribute significantly to the performance and durability of mechanical components.
