Plastography
Plastography is a specialised field of materials science that deals with the study and analysis of plastics. Microscopic methods are used to examine the morphology, i.e. the shape and structure, of plastics in detail. These examinations can cover various aspects, such as the distribution and size of phases, the arrangement of molecular chains, and the presence of crystalline structures or amorphous regions within the plastic material.
Plastographic analysis can provide important insights into the material properties and the behaviour of plastics under various conditions. This is particularly relevant for the development of new plastic materials, the optimisation of production processes and quality control in industrial manufacturing. The microscopic techniques used include scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and light microscopy.
