Standardisation
Standardisation is an essential process in many areas, encompassing the development and application of standards, guidelines and characteristics by established bodies. These standards, often referred to as technical standards, serve to secure and harmonise the results of science, technology and experience. They are dynamic and adapt to changing requirements and developments over time.
The development of such standards is the result of a broad consensus among various interest groups such as companies, trade, educational institutions, consumer organisations, craft businesses, testing institutes and authorities. These standards are adopted by recognised institutions such as the German Institute for Standardisation (DIN), the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) or the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and published as formal documents to ensure widespread acceptance and application.
