LOI
LOI, also known as Limiting Oxygen Index, is a parameter used in materials science to assess the flammability of materials. This term is often used in connection with determining the fire resistance of materials.
The Limiting Oxygen Index indicates the percentage oxygen content in a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen at which a material can just about continue to burn independently. It is an important parameter for assessing the fire hazard and fire resistance of materials such as plastics, textiles and other composite materials.
The higher the LOI value of a material, the more resistant it is to fire and flame. The LOI is therefore an important parameter in the development and testing of materials for applications in which fire protection plays a role, such as in the construction industry or in the manufacture of electronic devices.
