Linear expansion
Linear expansion refers to the change in the length of a material when the temperature rises by 1 Kelvin. In reinforced plastics in particular, this change depends heavily on the direction of material flow.
These two values represent different rates of expansion in different directions. The mean linear expansion, which is calculated as the average of the two figures, provides a practical reference for the general change in length of the material regardless of its specific orientation.
