Izod impact strength
The Izod impact strength, also known as the Izod impact test, is an important method for assessing a material's ability to withstand a sudden impact without breaking. This test method is widely used in many industries, particularly in materials science and engineering. In the Izod impact test, a standardised test specimen made from the material to be examined is clamped and then subjected to a defined impact. This impact is often caused by a pendulum hammer that falls onto the test specimen from a certain height.
By measuring the energy required to break or deform the material, engineers can gain important information about its impact strength and fracture resistance. The results of the Izod impact test are crucial for the development and selection of materials for applications in which they are exposed to strong impacts or loads, such as in the automotive industry, in construction or in the manufacture of sports equipment.
