Ethylene propylene diene rubber
Ethylene-propylene terpolymer rubber, also called ethylene-propylene diene rubber (EPDM), is a synthetic rubber produced by the copolymerisation of ethylene, propylene and a diene monomer.
- Composition: EPDM is a terpolymer consisting of the monomers ethylene, propylene and a diene. The combination of these monomers results in a structure that offers good resistance to heat, weathering, UV radiation and chemical attack.
- Properties: EPDM rubber is characterised by its flexibility, elasticity, ageing resistance and weather resistance. It retains its mechanical properties well even at high and low temperatures, which makes it suitable for use in various environments.
- Applications: EPDM is used in a wide variety of applications, including roof waterproofing, vehicle seals, hoses, gaskets, insulation and much more. Because of its resistance to environmental influences and its durable properties, it is often used in outdoor applications.
- Processing: EPDM can be processed by various methods, including extrusion, injection moulding and compression moulding. This versatility in processing allows it to be adapted to the specific requirements of various applications.
